Microbiome Testing Reviews for Viome

When the CEO – Naveen Jain has to consistency post 5 star reviews to counteract the negative reviews that is an issue. Naveen does not disclose who he is or address customers’ concerns. This is unprofessional and not acceptable. I would not use this product again. Me having a microbiology / healthcare background I should have done a more thorough research into this product before I used. I hope this is insightful.

Fraud alert!
This is an honest review of Viome. Out of desperation, I have used Viome supplements for 8 months. Within 4 weeks of use my symptoms got worse. After 6 months, I retested. I was shocked that most of my results were getting worse than when I started using the supplements. Upon many calls and complaints I was told the company does not have a mechanism to compare the two tests and there are variables but they would not explain it to me. Their customer service is unprofessional, they read generic statements that are prepared by someone who knows how write nonsense. This company is dishonest, they want you to get hooked so that you keep buying supplements. My doctor even told me that this is all about making money, there is no test and supplement that can be individualized for each person. All this company knows is to take your money and take advantage of you. Do not be fooled by the BS on their website, it is a bunch of garbage. I wish I read the reviews before investing thousands of dollars. I DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY.

Hard to say if Viome’s gut test is legit or not. Paid the fee, registered my sample, returned it to Viome. Confirmation it arrived Dec. 9, 2019. They claim it takes 2-4 weeks to analyze. Still no word on January 26, 2020. No other communications from company.

2 years ago I gained 30lbs in barely a month, with no change in habits or lifestyle no matter which doctor or care provider I told, they shrugged and focused on the bigger fish I had to fry (paraphrasing). I did my viome test this summer and got my results back while I was in Italy. I have been eating per their elimination diet recommendations for barely two weeks and have lost ten pounds. for me it was never about the weight, it was the question ‘what is this weeight a symptom of.’ SO MUCH INFLAMMATION.

Knowing my metabolic type has changed everything. A metabolic test showed that I process complex carbohydrates very well, and that I need to reduce my fat intake a bit, to about 25% of my daily intake. I felt pretty good on the ketogenic diet when I was on it years ago, but I also got a little hooked on coffee because my energy was low. Now that I’ve upped my complex carbohydrates, I’ve got way more energy and food processes more efficiently. What a relief! Ever wonder why there is SO much discrepancy about which diet is best? High fat, low fat, etc? It’s because we each have slightly different metabolic types. While some people will thrive on a high fat diet, others will struggle for energy and be sluggish to process that fat. There are different metabolic tests out there. I chose viome.

This is the second kit I’ve purchased from Viome within a 1-year time span. I’ve been quite happy with the overall process and enjoyed the fact everything was summarized and easily available via their app. I can tell the company continues to invest in it’s processes and overall product/service as the second time around things seemed to flow even better. It’s easy to check which foods to focus on and which ones to avoid so you can build a “meal plan” that best suits your microbiome. I’m excited to see my new results.

I usually have 2-3 bad nights of sleep per week with insomnia. After the first week on my new Viome diet I’ve had great sleep every night!

I usually don’t read other reviewers comments either before or after I review a product, but this time, I wanted to see how others responded to a few situations. I’m a little disappointed that this isn’t getting a very fair review based on actual experiences, but more upon what people assume without giving it a fair shake. I waited until I’d actually followed the plan for a few weeks, and researched everything I could find.

First, there were delays. At the time I received my kit, I was already a member of the Viome facebook group, where many were discussing the delays in receiving recommendations. Issue #1 – they were upgrading to a larger facility and had to transition to a new lab, new equipment, etc. Issue #2 – they were not actually approved to do what they do in every state. They are still not able to send results to every state, so check first before you sign up. My test was sent at a time that they were awaiting approval in my state, so it took a couple of months. I was concerned about how accurate the results would be since I had taken antibiotics and changed my diet substantially during the time I sent my test kit in and when I received my results. Customer service was exceptional and sent me a replacement test kit at no charge.

Ok, so on to the questionnaire. This is truly a list of questions your doctors should be asking you. Every question matters. If you’re a privacy freak, don’t do it. Don’t go to doctors and fill out their paperwork either, because all of that info goes into databases. If you don’t care who knows you have warts and viruses but do care about optimal health, buckle up and fill in the questionnaire! If you know any little thing about gut health and the microbiome or billions of living things that reside on/in your body, you’ll know that every single question asked is very relevant to their (and your) health. You’ll also know that it is going to take a few changes in your lifestyle and diet if you want to improve this synergistic relationship between you and your microflora.

I’m stepping back a little to the actual test – so you receive a pretty impressive looking box with a stool sample test kit and a toilet bowl cover selection. It’s a little more awkward to use the paper cover than the plastic dishes the doctor’s office gives you, but it’s also flushable (the toilet seat cover, at least!). You do need to follow the instructions to the letter. Not too much, not too little. It’s easy, really, once you’ve done it.

They recommend you use the app that you download from either app store, or from the website. I find the website works way better than the app, and there’s much larger screen space to see more at a time that way. I’ve covered the questionnaires, but want to mention that many don’t realize that once you begin, there are weekly follow-up questions. Your responses to these will help, and after 45 days, at least in my experience (this is totally customized to each individual, so your experiences may vary), they will provide updated recommendations, so you then switch to the new variations. This may or may not be based on your responses to the follow-up questions. So they DO NOT send another test for you to submit in 45 days, they just send recommended dietary suggestions.

The dietary recommendations are divided up into the following:
My Foods to Avoid
My Superfoods
All Foods – split into:
Vegetables
Proteins & Fats
Fruit & Grains
Herbs, Spices & Other

Everyone gets different variations within the above, but for example, I’ve been recommended the following: Vegetable Servings – 9 per day, Proteins & Fats – 6 per day, Fruits & Grains – 4 per day, and Herbs, spices & other – 7 per day.

So on my ‘avoid’ list a few from each group – they’re easy enough to avoid with no problems. You can actually click to see WHY you should avoid these foods.
Superfoods – these are foods that have components that your body really needs.
There are some foods labeled ‘minimize’ which are ones that are good for you, but have things in them that your body needs in limited amounts.

Everything on my foods list is basic, whole, healthy foods that are easy to prepare and taste fantastic. I come from a keto/paleo mindset, so I’m actually learning to adjust to include sprouted grains and seeds, and including fruits I’ve avoided for years.

I was recommended supplements to take that were easy to find on Amazon. Yours may be different, but it seems that everyone on the Facebook group can easily find the recommended supplements for them, too. They weren’t expensive, either.

On the website/app. you can also see a breakdown of your Microbiome – your metabolic fitness, inflammatory activity, your actual microbial richness, and activity, and you can actually see the list of your microbes – Eukaryotes, Viruses, Bacteria, Archaea, and Probiotics. I’ve learned a lot by researching everything on the list.

Results so far – in the first three weeks, I’d lost 10 pounds, I’m seeing a lot of my autoimmune issues fading, and where grains and sugar used to cause inflammation, I find I can eat sprouted grains in limited amounts and a little organic sugar and my inflammation is decreasing. My joint & muscle pains are reduced, my fatigue is decreasing (I’ve had CFS – Chronic Fatigue most of my life), and I’m sleeping better than I have in years. I’m very satisfied with the foods and feel like I’m more focused.

Honestly, if you have any questions about how this works, join the Facebook group and ask away. You still won’t get a lot of support from Viome customer support as they’re kind of in chaos, but if you ask questions on FB messenger, the social media support will get your questions answered. Viome is still in its infancy stage, but why wait for better health?! Jump on now – wait for an offer though since they’re always discounting the price.

I used to wake up in the middle of the night with a jolt of anxiety. That’s completely gone now. I started out by buying a book about gut healing but then did a viome gut health test and found out that my gut didn’t like fermented foods. The personalized recommendations made all the difference.

I’ve received my Viome Gut Intelligence results and recommendations and overall I am very pleased with what I am learning and the insights I can take action on to improve my health. I have been reading a lot about the microbiome the past year with many articles talking about its importance and connections to good or bad health. I started eating more yogurt and added kefir to my diet. But I truly didn’t know if that was the right thing to do. I heard from a friend about Viome and that they are able to measure the activity of all those bacteria, parasites, fungi, viruses and phases that live in my GI tract. Perhaps most importantly Viome is able to use this technology to determine a very personalized diet – food by food. I knew that most diets just didn’t work so this started to make sense. I received my kit, collected a small stool sample, answered some questions on the Viome smartphone app and sent my sample back to the lab. Pretty simple process. My results and recommendations now appear on my app in a pretty user friendly format. Viome gives me some useful indexes of various aspects of my health and of course lists of foods I should eat often or avoid. It’s pretty neat that by clicking on a food the app told me exactly what in my microbiome was triggering that recommendation. So I understood why they were making that personalized recommendation for me. I feel confident that by following these food recommendations my overall health will improve. I plan on reporting back after a month on the program so I can share my progress. The experience so far has been great and inspires confidence in the results.

Beets are on my superfood list. I just listened to a podcast that said beets are great for liver function (which is important for clearing excess estrogen/balancing hormones). My DNA tests showed I have a SNP for poor liver function and slow estrogen metabolism. Beets to the rescue. Thanks again, Viome for looking out! xxoo

I bought the test in 10/2017 and pretty much followed the recommendations until 7/2018 when I got the results of my second test. RNA was down 20-25%. (meaning inflammation in my gut). My elimination was so improved that the need for herbal suppliments was dropped. Inflammation in knee joints (especially problematic) is probably 50% better. Other resuts that are not important, are likewise better. I can only tell you that MY experience has made me a believer and an advocate (which I normally do not do in my work as an alternative health consultant).

I have had ulcerative colitis since 2000. I had 4 different nutrionists try to help me u derstand the foods that were causing me issues. It took me 7 years to find that butter and oil were an issue for me.

When i got my viome results back…low and behold, these were both listed as foods to avoid. That alone gave credibility to this for me. I just wish i had this back then as i may have had 7 years of my life back. The test also told me to avoid spinach and apples…things i was eating every day. So after following that advice…i suddenly found that my stool was more formed and i was going 1-2 times a day instead of three times a day.

Also….my test told me i had low inflamation and a few weeks before i got my results back, i had a scope and the doc told me the same thing.

Viome gave me some powerfoods to eat and told me i have low microbiome diversity…but im not sure how to fix that…short of maybe eating more variety.

Viome has given me a specific plan for eating that has left me feeling more mental clarity, feeling more energetic than I have in years, and losing weight and bloat. The plans gives me a specific prescription for quantities of vegetable, proteins, fruits and grain, along with very detailed information about what foods to maximize and which ones to minimize and avoid. I believe people make a mistake by just thinking about the “avoid” list. We all know what NOT to eat, but my Viome list is like having a designer eating plan outlining what I should eat to feel great. I can not recommend it highly enough.!

I tried many different diets described online, and nothing worked (the stupid paleo diet made me feel worse). These guys somehow know what I should and should not eat. About a month after I started eating the recommended diet, I started feeling better. Very exciting times we live in.

My bf started using his microbiome recommendations from Viome and has since had serious relief from a lot intestinal issues! I’ve had slightly less obvious results so far, but I’ve definitely had more energy and felt better in general since following my recommendations. It’s really cool to know that we’re at the cutting edge of knowledge about this kind of testing!

$399 is worth it considering the upside

Literally life changing, I can’t speak more highly about this company – I’ve seen a few quacks in my time but this is the first company to give me a real sense of confidence about my tummy and how it’s affecting my health and energy levels :) I’m only two months in and changes are noticeable.

Been struggling with gut issues for a while and have seen many doctors. It’s been expensive to take the tests in the past (even with insurance) and frustrating that none of these tests offer insights into what is wrong. Viome is different! My Viome results show me on a VERY detailed level the specific bacteria, viruses, etc that are active in my gut and give me specific nutritional advice for my gut. Love the personalization and that I finally know what to eat. Feel a lot less bloated and sick after eating. Highly recommend!!
