Summary

Easy DNA delivered the service as promised but I wasn’t happy that my test was carried out by a different company. I also felt that receiving four pages of terms and conditions in the kit was a bit daunting, especially as I was anxious to return the samples and get the results.

Full Review

The Easy DNA website was clear, easy to use and reassuring compared to the others I’d researched. The list of paternity tests on offer was a bit overwhelming, but I was able to find the ‘One father-One child’ test I was looking for. A ‘One mother-One father-One child’ paternity test was also listed but it wasn’t obvious why I would need to test the mother’s DNA as well.

Ordering Experience

There were no extra fees on top of the advertised price and I received the kit two working days after ordering. It came in an inconspicuous envelope – no one could have known what it was without opening it which was reassuring.

There were eight pages of documents and instructions to go through in the kit, four of which were the terms and conditions I was accepting by returning the samples. I thought the terms and conditions were unnecessarily long, and felt they should have been part of the order process so I could have reviewed them before purchasing.

That said, the instructions were easy to follow and I was able to take the samples without any problems. An addressed envelope was included to return them but I had to pay for postage. The day after sending off the samples I received confirmation that they'd reached the lab, and that it would take five working days to get the results.

The Results

The results were sent to me by email one working day later than the site told me to expect – they were attached as a one-page PDF file (shown below).

Upon first opening the document it looked very confusing. There were lots of colorful badges and certifications at the top, and a large multi-colored table which looked very complicated. There was an orange table at the bottom which said I was ‘excluded’ as the biological father, and a blue 'Statistical Results' table beneath this which said ‘Probability = 0%’ (shown below).

It was clear that I wasn’t the biological father but I wished the result had been easier to see.

I couldn’t see a single reference to Easy DNA in the PDF and it showed the laboratory that had conducted the test was in New Mexico, which wasn’t what I was led to believe by the website.

Easy DNA's Response

easyDNA is glad to announce we have now launched a brand new site with a new payment system. We have totally revamped our order system using the most up-to-date, tried and tested order system which will make the ordering experience as simple as possible. With this enhanced order system, clients no longer scan through a list of options but simply click through; it is so much quicker and more user friendly on both desktop and smart phones.

Regarding testing the mother’s sample as part of a paternity test we have added a link to the order page which clients can click on when they come to select whether or not to test the mother’s sample – we hope that henceforth, no other clients will be have an issue regarding this.

Whilst we appreciate our terms and conditions are rather long, it is necessary that we set out our legal terms to help minimise disputes and covering all areas of the service we offer. We believe our terms are an integral part of our service, protecting our clients and showing transparency in what we do and how we operate. We cannot omit or start cutting out sections as we feel this would of disservice/unfair to our clients. This said we have shortened them.

Regarding making the terms a part of the testing process, we have always provided a highlighted link to our terms and conditions on the order page. Clients can view these concurrently whilst still selecting their product.
