Sibling Testing Reviews for Genetrack Biolabs

All this thing about DNA testing online was new to me, I didn’t even know it existed. Found this company and decided to order a sibling test, got the kit in a week and so. the collection was very simple, sent back the samples and got my results in 9 days. Very satisfaced with Genetrack’s services. Everything worked very smoothly.

Ordered a private kit from them, waited a couple of days because I paid for courier. Sent the samples back and got my results in 4 days. Sadly not the result I was expecting but nothing to do with the company. Called to clarify some questions before ordering the kit and the agent shown to have lots of knowledge about the process. I’d definitely recommend this lab.

Because this lab was recommended by various government bodies, I took the plunge and together with my reputed half or full sister did the sibling test. No mother or father could take part as both are deceased. Granted it is stated that without parents or reputed parents involved, the result can not be 100 percent certain, although it can indicate the degree of likelihood.
So, on doing the test both of us, and getting the result, we are puzzled as to what to think. Sure, there are examples given, but ours does not match any of them. In our result, the index for half sisters was 29.02 and probability 96.6%, and for full sisters the index was 390.20 and probability 99.7%. Now, we were already certain we were at least half sisters with a common mother, but yet the 29.02 for full sisters is lower but still above 1.0. So, we emailed the lab to get a little clearer explanation of likelihood of full sistership in plain English. Guess what? The reply was a verbatim repeat of the report summary, as though we had not read it. So, another email, and several days later, no reply. You know something? – they probably do not know any more either, but do not say so for legal reasons. Plain English may land them in court. To be honest, the bottom line is this, dear folks who do not have a background in human genetics (near the world population) – if you cannot get a parent to take part in a sibling test, do not bother if you want certainty. Certainty is not on the table. However, it would be nice and a whole lot politer for these people to communicate like normal human beings, but maybe I expect too much from others of our species. The reason certainty is not on the table with sibling tests that do not involve a parent or reputed parent, is because there are no essential DNA components that need to be shared by siblings, unlike parentage tests which must have certain DNA components all present. Weird, but true. Why? – ask our creator – at least you have a better chance of getting an intelligible answer from that source than from this laboratory.

I sent off my DNA and my possible half-sister sent hers to Genetrack and they came back as not related. This surprised me as my brother had sent his to Ancestry and it came back as them being half-siblings. I in tur n sent mine to Ancestry and it came back with ashalf-siblings. The ones sent to Genetrack were requested to be tested together to see if we were related. The ones sent to Ancestry were sent months apart with no names mentioned by us and came back with our individual names as all 3 of us being related. The samples sent to Genetrack were mouth swabs put in an envelope but the ones to Ancestry were saliva (spit) into a plastic bottle, so no contamination could take place. Decide for yourself when looking at all their reviews. I have asked them for an explanation but they just keep returning the technical information. The technical information from Ancestry is much more explanatory with a lot more information.

A total disgrace, quick enough to take your money and give results. The results are totally mind blowing 8 people couldnt understand them. Emailed them 7 times to ask for help and explaining. All i got back was look at the results grrr so angry after paying for a 4 sibling test and no better off. Will be reporting to an agencty advise people not to use. They really dont even deserve one star!!!!

Ordered a 3-sibling test, decided to add another sibling before any swabs were sent back, asked to change it to a 4-sibling test but they insisted we pay for another 2 sibling test, so the overall cost was around 30% higher than the 4-sibling test. Then they refused to provide pairwise comparisons between all four of us. Their emails responding to our inquiries were totally rude or inept and they insisted they had fulfilled their end of the bargain. What a crass money grab! So, I had to figure out how to do the statistics myself. Luckily I had taken human genetics, albeit 25 years ago. Once I figured out what to do, it was actually quite simple, so their unwillingness to give us what we wanted was the height of lunacy. Their customer service was dismal and we had absolutely no meeting of the minds.

Now to the results. M and T are full siblings and J and Me are thought to be half siblings (all from the same father). I was 99% to M, 50% to T and 36% to J. J was 94% to M and 87% to T. J and I had done the same test years ago and it was 6.4%, so for years we thought we were not siblings. This really confused me until I found the following webpage. dna-view.com/LRconfusion.htm It shows that a 15 locus test is woefully insufficient to accurately determine whether two people share one parent. Do not waste your money on this sibship test. Either do a test looking at many more loci (I saw one with 44) or perhaps and alternate type of test. I was thinking of trying 23andMe as the amount of data they measure is far greater.
