The ‘Feline PKD Disease Testing’ service from Easy DNA analyzes your cat’s DNA. It determines whether your cat has inherited a copy of the gene that elevates the risk of developing Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD).

What you’ll receive

You’ll receive a DNA testing kit that allows you to collect a saliva sample from the cat you wish to test. The results will show you one of the following genotypes that’s possessed by your cat:

• NN (Two copies of the normal allele) – your cat will not suffer with, or carry the genes assocaited to, PKD
• NP Heterozygote (One normal copy and one copy of the PKD mutation) – your cat may pass on the gene assocaited to PKD to its offspring
• PP (Two copies of the PKD mutation) – your cat suffers with PKD, but this finding is very rare as sufferers tend to die in utero
