Summary

North Gene conducted the test as promised and I was delighted to receive the results faster than expected. I’d highly recommend North Gene to anyone seeking a paternity test.

Full Review

The information on the North Gene site was clear and easy to understand. I read that taking a paternity test with North Gene meant they’d need samples from the mother, my child, and myself (the alleged father). Reading on, I saw that they can conduct the test without the mother’s sample, but for children aged under 16, North Gene would still need the mother’s consent to process the test.

Ordering Experience

It was easy to complete the forms required to book the test, and as my child is over 16, I didn't need to contact the mother for any reason. I’m glad that it wasn’t mandatory to provide the mother’s details.

Before booking the test I was invited to read the terms and conditions - they weren’t long and were simple to understand. At the end of the terms I noticed that North Gene would be entitled to “use data, results and any surplus samples submitted in any studies relating to statistical and genetic parameters for DNA testing but only in an anonymous manner to prevent the identity of any individual being traceable”. I wondered what these studies would be, and what North Gene meant by ‘statistical and genetic parameters for DNA testing’.

After booking the test I was sent confirmation of the details on email, and was then prompted to go to PayPal’s site via a link on the North Gene site to make the payment. I had to input the price myself and was warned that if my payment details didn’t match the information I’d provided when I booked the test, then I’d have to add special instructions. As my billing address is separate from my delivery address, I mentioned this as a special instruction to make sure the sample collection kit was sent to the right place. After making the payment, both PayPal and North Gene sent me confirmation emails.

A day later I received the collection kit. It was a simple matter to take the samples, but it was a bit tricky to write our names on the tubes. I appreciated the fact that return postage had been paid for!

North Gene confirmed that they’d received my samples one day after I’d sent them off.

The Results

Two working days later I received the results by email as a PDF file (shown below), this was one day sooner than the website told me to expect. The PDF showed that I was ‘excluded’ from the paternity of my child.

A table of ‘allele inheritance’ was shown on one of the pages and although I didn’t understand what it was, I could see that my DNA was mismatched to my child’s.

Summary

North Gene conducted the test as promised and I was delighted to receive the results faster than expected. I’d highly recommend North Gene to anyone seeking a paternity test.
